Ingredients

  • Large shrimp – 1 lb (450g), peeled and deveined
  • Broccoli florets – 3 cups
  • Sesame oil – 2 tbsp
  • Garlic – 2 cloves and minced
  • Ginger – 1 inch, finely grated
  • Green onions – 2, thinly sliced
  • Sesame seeds – 1 tbsp (for garnish)

For the Sauce

  • Soy sauce – 1/4 cup (or tamari for a gluten-free option)
  • Honey – 2 tbsp, or you can also add maple syrup instead of honey
  • Rice vinegar – 1 tbsp
  • Sriracha – 1 tsp (adjust based on desired spiciness)
  • Cornstarch – 1 tbsp mixed with 2 tbsp cold water (slurry)

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce – take out a small bowl, and add the ingredients like soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey or maple syrup, and sriracha and whisk them together. Set aside.

Sauté Broccoli – You must first sauté some ingredients in a large skillet or wok, such as heat 1 tbsp of sesame oil. You can sauté them over medium heat. Add the broccoli florets and stir them in a stir-fry fashion for no longer than 4-5 minutes. You can also stop when they turn bright green and are slightly tender. You can set aside the skillet after removing the sautéed ingredients.

Cook the Shrimp – Heat the remaining sesame oil in the same skillet. Add the garlic you minced earlier along with grated ginger, sautéing briefly until aromatic. Add the shrimp into the mix and cook until pink on both sides.

Combine with Sauce – Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the shrimp. Bring the mixture to a simmer. Slowly stir in the cornstarch slurry and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Final Assembly – Return the broccoli to the skillet and toss everything together, ensuring the shrimp and broccoli are well-coated with the sauce.

Serve – Transfer to serving bowls. Garnish the dish with green onions but sliced, and then add a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Your Asian shrimp and broccoli recipe has been completed.
